The digital edition of Space Angel's new album, 'DIVE!' is out now!
Alternatively, go to the album microsite to preview the songs, and follow links to your favourite streaming or download platforms, including Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon.
The 13-song album is a richer, more diverse collection than 2023's 'You Are Next': a world of stories, invention, and emotion. From cinematic ballads to prog, psychedelia, heavy rock, and art pop, from summer heat to winter sparkle, and an autumn that is turning to gold. So, dive in!
Each of the tracks – by christopher rye, Allan Wiseman, and Alfonso Cavassa – contains a single-take live performance by the band, recorded live by Ali Gavan at Brighton Road Recording Studios in just two days.
On top of this, lead guitarist, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer christopher added vocals, ambient textures, and guitar and keyboard overdubs at his own studio, The Disreputable Gentleman's Club on Brighton seafront.
Each of those overdubs was also a single take, with no sequencing, AI, or cheating. Every track is audio, every instrument and vocal a performance.
The result is a more polished and expansive record than its predecessor, while retaining the authentic live elements of the first, and the unpredictability of a real-world recording.
It includes the singles 'Something on the Motorway' (original version), 'I Could Be Loved', '(Looks Like) Angels', and 'Abyssinia Sometime' – plus future singles 'Forgiving is Easy', 'Autumn is Turning to Gold', and Christmas/winter song 'The 300 Days of January'. Plus, album tracks such as 'Conquistador', 'In This World', 'The Wolves of Reigate', and 'There', which were released with those singles.
And a whole lot more!
• Physical versions of the album will be released in September 2025, when the band will return to the concert stage to play some live shows.
Album trivia • The title 'DIVE!' was suggested by singer and songwriter Jordan Rakei at an in-store gig at Resident, in Brighton, when christopher asked him to pick a random title for a new project. Jordan wrote 'DIVE!' on the cover of his own album, and handed it to christopher.
• The cover features a digital painting by christopher, based on a photograph taken by Charlatans frontman, Tim Burgess, who said bands were free to use the image as an album cover. christopher added the storm clouds, the colouring, and – of course – the Space Angel.
